Hi, I’m Kiera Baker, a sports journalist and broadcaster passionate about telling the stories that unfold both on and off the court.
My love for sports began as a player. As a former USCAA All-American and leading scorer for Penn State Beaver Women’s Basketball, I experienced the preparation, emotion, discipline, and determination behind every performance. That experience shaped my perspective and inspired me to pursue sports storytelling. It allows me to connect with athletes on a deeper level and approach their stories with authenticity and respect.
At Penn State, I turned that passion into hands-on broadcasting experience through my work with Penn State Athletics and as a Women’s Basketball Insider. I called live games, delivered play-by-play and score updates, and supported camera operation and production needs behind the scenes. Whether I am calling a basketball or football game, interviewing athletes, or producing highlight reels, I am driven by the excitement of connecting audiences to the people and moments that make sports meaningful.
I have had the opportunity to interview NFL athletes Steven Sims Jr., Xavier Hutchinson, and British Brooks, as well as legendary WNBA championship-era Van Chancellor coach. Each conversation has strengthened my passion for thoughtful, authentic storytelling.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from Penn State University, along with a Sports Journalism Certificate from the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism. I am now a graduate student at the University of Southern California, pursuing a master’s degree in Specialized Journalism with a sports emphasis as I continue refining my voice in the industry.
My hands-on experience includes work with the Houston Texans, NEPL ProAM League, Must See Classic, Penn State Athletics, Fort Bend ISD Athletics, Amateur Athletic Union, Collective Minds, BGP Studios, C-Net Broadcasting, FOX Sports Big Noon, and Centre County Report. Across these roles, I have reported live, conducted interviews, delivered play-by-play commentary, created digital content, and supported production teams in fast-paced sports environments.
Beyond the mic, I am proud to be a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the National Association of Black Journalists, and Women in Sports Media. My goal is to amplify diverse voices in sports and inspire the next generation of women in media.
Thanks for stopping by. I am just getting started, and I cannot wait to see where this journey takes me.
